Sharlene Welton
At the root of Sharlene’s passion for art is memories. While pursuing an early childhood education degree, art classes at Eastern Michigan University triggered the evocative impact of drawing and painting from her youth.
From 2015-present, Sharlene has exhibited at many galleries throughout the Detroit area including The Scarab Club of Detroit, Detroit Artists Market, Village Theater Gallery in Canton, Hatch Art in Hamtramck, River’s Edge Gallery in Wyandotte, Huron Valley Council for the Arts in Highland, Plymouth Community Arts Council, The War Memorial in Grosse Pointe, and Downriver Council for the Arts, to name a few.
Sharlene was the curator for a successful women’s exhibit in 2020 called When There Are Nine. By popular demand, the women’s exhibit will travel to a new location in March 2022.
Sharlene’s paintings have received awards from jurors and art clubs. In 2018, one of her paintings was selected to be displayed on the outside wall of the Howell Opera House. More recently, in 2020, a painting called “The Drummer of Eastern Market” was chosen to be enlarged and hung in the city of Pontiac.
Painting trees and landscapes and places and people with connections to memories remains Sharlene’s primary focus. To her, art offers the gifts of both adventure and refuge.
