Carol La Chiusa attended the Cleveland School of art and extended her studies in workshops at the Universidad de Mexico-Puebla, at Trinity College in Venice (Italy), and, in Nantucket, at the School of Art and Design. She has exhibited extensively both in the U.S.A and abroad and has been represented by Metropolitan Graphics (New York City), the Cary Gallery (Rochester, Michigan), the Troy Art Gallery (Southfield, Michigan), and the Maniscalco Art Gallery (Grosse Pointe, Michigan). She has also been honored with more than twenty solo shows and many awards, and her work hangs in many corporate collections. Ms. La Chiusa served as president of both the Detroit Society of Women Painters and Sculptors and Grosse Pointe Arts Council, and for several years hosted "Watercolor Workshop with Carol La Chiusa" on Channel 32 in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. In 2023, she was honored by the Michigan Watercolor Society with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Watercolor, the medium that has engaged her attention since 1971 and which she also teaches, has been well suited to her searching vision. Motivated by a lifelong fascination with light, La Chiusa creates landscape and city scenes that are filled with meditative speculations about the phenomena of appearances. She manipulates the transparency of her colors, set off by bold use of white of the paper, to develop appealingly clear and admirably loose descriptions of natural forms and colors, and to summon up the spirit of the places where she paints.
